One of the great things about Pinterest is the many ways people can use the Social Media community. Whether you’re a bride planning a wedding or a business owner using the tool for marketing, the opportunities are endless. Pinterest is a relatively young Social Media site. It launched in March 2010 and continues to grow rapidly. In fact, in Q2 of 2013 Pinterest was named the fastest growing Social Network with a growth rate of 88 percent. To continue expanding and attracting new users, Pinterest has made a few recent announcements of changes to come to the virtual Pin board site. Take a look at two new features coming to Pinterest:
According to a Business Insider report, Pinterest has yet to generate revenue. Pinterest CEO and Co-Founder Ben Silbermann wrote in recent blog post how it’s important that Pinterest is here to stay because he is among the 70 million users who pin wish lists, vacation plans and dream home ideas. The answer? Promoted Pins! In his blog post, Silbermann stated that the company plans to start experimenting by promoting certain Pins from a select group of businesses. Silbermann said Promoted Pins will be:
- Tasteful: No flashy banners or pop-up ads.
- Transparent: Let you know if someone paid for what you see, or where you see it.
- Relevant: These Pins should be about stuff you’re actually interested in, like a delicious recipe, or a jacket that’s your style.
- Improved based on your feedback: Keep letting Pinterest know what you think, and it’ll keep working to make things better.
To test this change, Pinterest wants to promote some Pins in the search results and category feeds. This would ensure that the Promoted Pins are relevant to the category that people are browsing or may be exactly what they searched for. If Promoted Pins are rolled out by the Holidays, retailers using Pinterest will be able to give their Holiday campaign a boost!
New Article Pins
Do you pin interesting articles that you come across online? If so, you’re not the only one! According to Pinterest, more than five million articles are pinned every day. Pinterest’s second recent update aims to make article pinning easier and more detailed. Now when you pin an article, the headline, author, story description and link will automatically be added. Often Pinterest users will come across a good article and pin it to read later. This update will give you a quick glimpse without clicking on the Pin so you can easily find the article you’re looking to read later on.
